BRHS Annual Show 2014
/On Saturday 23rd August 2014, the Burton & Rossett Horticultural Society held their Annual Show, which this year celebrated its 65th anniversary. This year the show was held in Darland School Hall by the kind permission of the Headteacher, Mr Agnew.
Despite the adverse weather conditions, the Show was a great success, with even more exhibitors and exhibits than previous years. In total, we had over 550 exhibits from nearly 100 exhibitors, some of which you can see in the photo gallery below.
The prestigious Banksian Medal, which is endorsed by the Royal Horticultural Society, was presented by Wendy Pace (the Chair of the Community Council) to Mr Ben Morris, who was showing for the first time. Mr Morris also won trophies for the heaviest marrow and the heaviest pumpkin.
The displays of dahlias, vegetables and flowers, were admired by all. I’m sure, like me, visitors wondered how the exhibitors grew such beautiful flowers and perfect vegetables. There were also displays of craft work, cookery, floral art and even a small display of sugar teddies made by members of Rossett WI.
The Junior Section was a riot of colour with a large number of painted flower pots and butterfly collages, including many from St. Peter’s and The Roft primary schools. A family of sugar mice secured Eve Wilde the Trophy for the best junior exhibit with Sam, her brother, winning the Trophy for the 12 to 15 age group, for his photograph of a blue tit feeding its young. Ellen Montgomery secured the Llyntyro Trophy in the Under 7’s category.
Thank you to everyone who visited, to the judges and stewards, and especially to the exhibitors who contributed to the success of our 65th Annual Show. We hope to see you all again next year.

Show Secretary
